(Spoiler for the faint hearted at the bottom of the blurb. Please read all the way through.)
Runner has a problem. He and 499,000 men and women are trapped in a game. He also just happens to be the only person from IT who could log everyone out safely. And he doesn't remember his password.
He, like everyone else in this nightmare, had their memories scrambled or lost in the process of being loaded into the game. A single garbled message is his only clue on how to save everyone.
The problem is that whoever loaded them into the game, loaded their minds completely. If they die, their brain gets wiped.
Now it's time for Runner to flex his skills as a power gaming min maxer and see what he can do. Because every time he levels, he might gain the memory of the password. Time to go Hardcore.
Warning and minor spoiler This novel contains graphic violence, a harem, unconventional opinions/beliefs, and a hero who is as tactful as a dog at a cat show. Read at your own risk.
This is the Omnibus edition of the 1st Otherlife Trilogy. It contains all three books of the first trilogy. Only the description of the first book has been included to prevent spoilers from occurring.

This was highly imaginative and very entertaining.Even though it's set in an RPG, there are twists all over the place and it certainly isn't predictable. The characters and world itself evolves (literally) throughout the story, and you find yourself wondering where else can it go, and then Boom!, there it goes.
Okay, so I really enjoyed this book, losing quite a bit of sleep the past few days reading it, but I'm not so good at reviews and don't want to spoil the story or turn anyone off to the book. My advice, if you're at all interested in this genre (SciFi, LitRPG & Fantasy all rolled into one), it's well worth the 9.99 for the omnibus edition (you'll want the whole story, plus there's an omnibus epilogue that provides an even more satisfying ending.)
If you like this, you may also be interested in the author's most recent work, "Super Sales on Super Heroes", which is what brought me here in the first place.

Otherlife Omnibus Edition The Selfless Hero Trilogy Books 13 eBook William D Arand Reviews
There is something about a good yarn and this one fits the bill. Sharing Runner's experiences as he enters a game as an amnesiac is a humorous literary adventure. Something occurred on the generational lifeship to make him join the game as he needs to level up to regain his memories. A drawback is that a full explanation of what happened to the ship is not provided. Nonetheless, good character and world building, light litrpg elements. Some minor editing issues. Need another trilogy with the goddesses!
Really huge novel about being stuck in a game server. However the author writes a whole other story around it, making it much more interesting in the whole. I read the whole omnibus, and it's a lot of material.
This is also a sorta harem-novel in the sense that there are plenty of women around and not a lot of guys. However, the first mention of sleeping with someone happens somewhere in the mid-second book, so it is really very limited. There are no real naughty scenes that would offend.
Well done!
Mediocre editing, though. Not bad enough to keep me from reading the whole series, but enough that I was constantly rolling my eyes at the mistakes. It looks a bit like the author forgets his commas and the editor is in too much of a hurry so they get stuck in a word or so off. Things like that, which just throw off the flow but don't make you toss the book.
Great read although it took up all my free time this weekend.
Writing style reminds me of Christopher Stasheff's style a modern or technology savvy individual in a medieval setting, learning, adapting and meshing elements of both. Arand adds the wrinkle of reality and computer generated reality, a doomsday strength AI, and a harem.
A note on the harem action., its PG13 rated, sort of like like Stasheff. However the more he writes the more explicit it gets (he also writes as Randi Darren or is vice versa?).
The current trilogy is well written although the early start drags a bit because the technology aspect has to be established. After the first few chapters the storyline gets going. New characters are added and fleshed out, game characters become self aware and the leveling up feature is always there but well explained and story relevant.
I've ended up buying most of his books and put some on a list to buy as soon as I finish the cutrent.
This appears to be his first trilogy. In his later works the harem/ sex gets more explicit some of it is story relevant. However the story telling aspect is still excellent. I follow both his Facebook account (as Randi and William) to make sure I know when the next book comes out. Still have to read the Faust and Dungeon book to see if anything has changed in his style.
All of the dialogue reads like it’s by the same person. There’s no difference except that Hannah curses, a lot. Katarina is supposed to be a barbarian, but her dialogue is the same as Runner. There’s no “flavor” for each character to add to the variations of their individual upbringing. Runner is supposed to be from the future, but he talks likes a LARP.
For example, in “Super Sales” I know exactly when Andrea or Lily is speaking just be the cadence and syntax of words. In this book. They’re all the same.
It gets better by the second book. I’m glad Arand gets over that harem “taboo” in his next books. It’s really annoying reading about a guy scared of harem life. There’s a difference between “forged in fire” and jumping on every pretty thing that passes. The 4 are the first and so are the goddesses.
I rarely write reviews as I feel a book should often stand on its own merits. However this book touched me deeply. Veiled within the story of a common litRPG and hidden behind a harem plot trope, the author twists the standard on its head and delivers not only one of, if not the, best stories I have read in the genre, but also manages to touch hearts with his corollaries to other social, moral, and ethical issues.
Bravo sir. More please.
I started this book expecting a simple Gary Stew type novel. A fun, light, romp that would alleviate my daily stress. I was not expecting to be so enraptured by the series that I finished all 3 books in 2 days, forsaking sleep and food alike. I was blown away by the level of thought brought into the world building and characters growth. But the climax. It took me 2 hours, a trip to the gym, and a glass of jack Daniels to calm down.
If a story can throw your heart rate up to 131 while sitting in a chair, it's a damn good story. 9/10 will recommend to everyone who stands still long enough.
